Part 3: the national SCIN trial – roll out and lessons learned

Summary:

In the third article in this series, Vaughan Parsons and Ira Madan describe the implementation of the national skin care intervention in nurses (SCIN) trial and highlight some important lessons learned.

The first two parts of this series highlighted the importance of cultivating a research culture in occupational health (OH)1 and described the development of the first national OH clinical trial in the UK (the ‘SCIN trial’)2. The trial methodology is summarised in the box on p.38. This third part examines the key stages that were undertaken to deliver the £1.4 million multi-centre trial in practice, including how the research team engaged and supported OH departments across the UK K to take part.
