‘Workers’ are an intermediate type of employment status between ‘employees’ and ‘genuinely self-employed, having some employment rights but fewer than employees: Employment status: ‘employees’ and ‘workers’.

Our page on ‘Workers‘ now includes the Court of Appeal decision in Pimlico Plumbers, as well as the more recent ‘gig economy’ decisions on Uber and Deliveroo.

The Equality Act extended definition of ‘employment’ tends to be interpreted by the courts in a similar way to ‘worker’, and that section also has been updated.
