Dr Matt Perry is the club doctor at Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) football club and is the medical adviser to the Premier League. He explains why he moved from general practice into sports medicine and how the role is evolving rapidly as the science of treating and preventing sports injuries progresses.

How would you sum up your role?

At Wolves, the work is a mix of general practice, sports medicine, acute injury management and occupational health. At the Premier League it is more of a strategic and advisory role; I support the Premier League Doctors’ Group,
