Occupational Health [at Work] bookmarks the latest guidance on ethics for OH practice from the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
The eighth edition of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine (FOM) Ethics guidance for occupational health practice is now available1. It addresses two major changes since the previous edition was published in December 2012: the coming into force of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on 25 May 2018, with its accompanying UK legislation, the General Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018); and revised guidance on confidentiality from the General Medical Council (GMC)2. Other developments since the previous edition include a revised version of the GMC’s Good medical practice3, the growing influence of social media, and a new ‘professional duty of candour’, which requires all healthcare professionals to be open and honest with patients when something goes wrong…
