Survey: OH pay and benefits 2022: Part 1
Part 1 of our survey of pay and benefits focuses on OH nurses, OH physicians and occupational hygienists
Summary:
Alice Sinclair and John Ballard report the results of the eighth Occupational Health [at Work] pay and benefits survey. Part one focuses on financial rewards – including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic – as well as pay satisfaction.
Occupational health (OH) and hygiene professionals continue to be relatively well paid, with OH nurses and hygienists earning around 50% more than the average UK wage, and OH doctors earning more than four-times the national average. Practitioners working for themselves reported some of the highest salaries, though within this group some individuals reported a fall in earnings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the pandemic impacting the economy, around half of practitioners reported having received a rise in annual earnings over the previous 12 months. Most practitioners were satisfied with their overall remuneration. These are the headline findings of the eighth ‘biennial’ Occupational Health [at Work] pay and benefits survey.
Alice Sinclair is a freelance social policy researcher with a strong track record of research on occupational health.
John Ballard is editor of Occupational Health [at Work].
