Hybrid working 

Summary:

New ways of working introduced during the pandemic are here to stay –including for OH professionals –but as ‘hybrid working’ becomes the standard model in many workplaces, care is needed to ensure that wellbeing is not sacrificed in the pursuit of lower costs 

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated a trend towards more flexible working, with growing numbers of employers appreciating its potential to support employee wellbeing and improve productivity.  

Our pay and benefits survey found that the vast majority of OH professionals are now entitled to flexible working (pp.17–33)1. Our 2016 survey found that 56% of respondents were eligible for flexible working, which increased to 63% in 2018 and 84% in our latest survey, conducted in November 2021. The increase in flexible working is seen across all sectors. It is also likely – though not something that was specifically investigated in the survey – that many OH services would now be offering their employees ‘hybrid working’…
