SURVEY: OH pay and benefits 2022: Part 2

Part 2: of our survey of the pay and benefits of OH nurses, OH doctors and occupational hygienists

Summary:

John Ballard and Alice Sinclair report the results of the eighth Occupational Health [at Work] pay and benefits survey. Part 2 focuses on working hours and workload, as well as additional benefits, including pensions, holiday entitlement and paid CPD.

The first part of the 2022 edition of our biennial occupational health (OH) and hygiene professionals’ pay and benefits survey reported annual salaries, income growth, bonus payments and pay satisfaction, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on remuneration. This second part focuses predominantly on non-financial benefits. Part two of the survey report finds that most OH and hygiene practitioners are working unpaid overtime, have access to an occupational pension scheme, and report that their workload has increased over the past two years, particularly as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Respondents also reported a range of additional benefits, though some, such as private medical insurance and employee recognition schemes, are more common in the private than public sector…

John Ballard is editor of Occupational Health [at Work]. Alice Sinclair is a freelance social policy researcher with a strong track record of research on occupational health.
