Survey: OH pay and benefits 2022: Part 3

Part 3: careers and opportunities, and the impact of COVID-19 on occupational health and hygiene services

Summary:

In the final part of Occupational Health [at Work]’s exclusive pay and benefits survey, John Ballard and Alice Sinclair examine career prospects and perceptions, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on OH and hygiene services in the UK.

Our latest pay and benefits survey reveals that most OH and hygiene professionals enjoy their work, with many describing it as rewarding and valuable. Only a minority of professionals report that career opportunities have declined since they joined their profession, and almost three-quarters of practitioners would recommend their profession to others. Most practitioners also believe that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a positive impact on OH and hygiene services – helping to raise their profile, for example – but others held more negative views. These are the headline findings from the final analysis of our 2021 pay and benefits survey.

Part one of this survey analysis focused on annual salaries, income growth, bonus payments and pay satisfaction1

John Ballard is editor of Occupational Health [at Work].
