The ILO has declared that a safe and healthy working environment is a ‘fundamental right at work’. The high prevalence of work-related ill health in the UK suggests we should take more notice.

A safe and healthy working environment is a ‘fundamental right at work’, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has declared at its most recent Session1. The ILO has added this principle to its 1998 Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work – supplementing the original four rights covering collective bargaining, forced labour, child labour and discrimination in employment2. So, why should we care?
