Supporting colleagues during COVID-19 and beyond

Elizabeth Tallentire describes a psychological wellbeing service for NHS staff and the lessons learnt as the programme was enhanced during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Psychological wellbeing is very important, and most of us will experience psychological difficulty at some point in our lives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, countries across the world reported relatively high prevalence of mental health difficulties compared to pre-pandemic rates. For example, estimates ranged from 6%–51% for anxiety and 15%–48% for depression1. Healthcare workers have been identified as a high-risk group with greater levels of mental health difficulty than the general population2.
