Baseline OH

Summary:

A key proposal of a UK government consultation to expand access to OH is the development of a ‘health at work’ standard and accreditation scheme for employers. Strong supporting evidence and tangible benefits are required.

The UK government is seeking views on proposals aimed at increasing employers’ use of OH services1 (this issue pp.4–5). Welcome aspects of the consultation include exploring how to expand and develop the OH workforce to meet future demand and learning from overseas models of delivery. It also proposes a national, voluntary ‘health at work’ standard and accreditation scheme. The standard would be ‘a simple and clear baseline’, developed by an ‘expert advisory group’, setting out the minimum level of OH provision employers of different sizes should offer.
