Progress on mesothelioma

Dr John Moore-Gillon, consultant physician emeritus at St Bartholomew’s and Royal London Hospitals and chair of the British Lung Foundation’s Mesothelioma Research Network Steering Group, said that for 25 years there had been little improvement in survival times for people who developed mesothelioma following occupational exposure to asbestos. People typically survived no more than 12 months from diagnosis, despite treatment. But that was all changing. Giving the annual Warner Lecture, which commemorates BOHS founder member Dr Clifford G Warner, Moore-Gillon explained that advances in immunotherapy and other treatments over the past five years were….
