The impact of migraine in the workplace

Summary:

Migraine is a common but complex disorder that can have an enormous impact on individuals, including in their working lives. Andrea Quinn of The Migraine Trust discusses the condition and explains how employers and OH professionals can do more to support individuals at work.

Migraine is the third most common disease in the world, with over 10 million people affected by the condition in the UK alone, equating to around one in seven people. Studies by the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors (GBD) highlighted the Years of Life Lived with Disability through migraine were highest in the group aged 15–49 years, making it clear that migraine significantly impacts those of working age1. Despite this, migraine remains poorly understood.…

 

Andrea Quinn is a senior communications officer at The Migraine Trust, with a background in disability specialist employment. She previously led the employment programme at the national hearing loss charity, the Royal National Institute for Deaf People. She also lives with migraine.
